Self-Awareness Empowers Vision

elf awareness is vitally important to us fulfilling God’s vision for our lives.

Self awareness is vitally important to us fulfilling God’s vision for our lives.

I just returned from the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM) Converge Leaders Conference. It was a powerful, life-changing experience.

BSSM Associate Overseer Leslie Crandall once asked leadership authority John Maxwell’s associate about the one major blind spot of leaders across the world. He said, “That’s easy. Self awareness. Self awareness is the largest blind spot of all leaders.”

Per Crandall, if we do not know who we are, if we are ineffective in our own self awareness, then we will walk in circles our whole lives and never blaze a trail for others to follow.

According to an American Management Association study of 72 senior executives, “a high self-awareness score was the strongest predictor of overall success.” Why? “Executives who are aware of their weaknesses are often better able to hire subordinates who perform well in areas in which the leader lacks acumen,” explained researcher Dr. Becky Winkler.

Coaches Help Us Discover Ourselves

Over the years, I have hired several coaches whose powerful questions, assignments, and insights led me to a greater awareness of myself, my patterns, strengths and challenges.

For instance, I learned that one of my life assignments is to help others discover and fulfill God’s vision for their lives. I am fulfilling this assignment through this blog, videos, vision board parties, consultations, seminars, and more.

I also learned that I tend to prefer projects with a beginning, a middle, and an end. So one of my challenges is in staying consistent with changes I must maintain for extended periods of time or a lifetime (ex: eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly). So I hired accountability partner Trina Sette to help me stay focused, disciplined, and faithful to myself.

What do you know about yourself that helps further your vision? What do you know about yourself that can hinder your it? How do you think this knowledge will help you fulfill God’s vision for your life? I would love to hear from you.
