My friend Cassie Marnita recently asked this question, “All hell is all around while walking in God’s purpose. What do you do?”
When we face trouble, we often struggle with doubt. We wonder if God’s promises are true and for us. If you have ever felt like all hell broke loose around you while pursuing God’s vision for your life, you are not alone.
While training to run a 5K, I suffered from anaphylactic shock and had to be rushed to the hospital. I almost lost my dad Alton Williams when he suffered from septic shock. He endured a grueling journey of two months in the hospital, a month of physical therapy, and several more months of recovery. In starting EnVision That, I have faced rejection and/or no response from several companies that I have approached to share the message.
I could go on and on about the spiritual attacks I have faced. When hit, I tend to think, “I need to work harder, do more, pray better, grow, try more and be a better person.” I carry the weight of doubt and discouragement.
Yes, we can bring some suffering on ourselves. For instance, I ate a milk-based soup before I went out on my 5K training run. I did not give the soup time to settle and digest, and my running immediately after eating caused the allergic reaction.
However, other attacks occur because we are on the right track.
Under Attack Because You’re On the Right Track
My mother Sherrilyn Williams once ministered on the subject, “Under Attack Because You’re On the Right Track.” She cited the ways that the enemy attacks us, according to Mark 4:14-20 and 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Affliction – The devil comes with affliction, troubles, and problems.
Persecution – We can be offended because of persecution we endure.
Cares of the World – The devil takes the Word by placing anxieties and worries upon us.
Deceitfulness of Riches – Satan has us looking at and trying to be like others. So we stress and overextend ourselves with 3 or 4 jobs trying to keep up with the Joneses. Yes, we need money, but money is not everything. We can’t buy peace of mind or a good night’s rest. Riches can be deceitful.
Lust of Other Things – Lust is an insatiable desire for something or someone that we really should not have. It is wanting too much of a thing. We can lust after a car, a house, a person, or anything else we want.
Temptation: There is pressure to succumb to what the enemy wants. He wants us to yield to the flesh.
Accusation; Satan accuses us. He is an “accuser of the brethren.” He always accuses us of something we did.
Condemnation: Satan wants us to think about and dwell on the past. We can’t go forward looking back.
Encouragement for Overcoming Spiritual Attacks
When we face dark days, what do we do? To Cassie and all who are enduring a season of spiritual attacks, below is some encouragement for your soul.
The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me walk on my high places. – Psalm 54:4
Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle – my loving kindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me. – Psalm 144:1
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand – Isaiah 41:10
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:11-12
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses – 1 Timothy 6:12
God is up to something, or the devil wouldn’t be fighting you this hard. You’re going to win!”
This too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone, but this too shall pass.
“When you go up higher in God, the dog (or Satan and his attacks) can’t reach you!” – Apostle Alton R. Williams
